Colour Association
A one day workshop exploring the emotional impact of colour, how to use colour effectively by an understanding of the colour wheel.
Paint Effects
A one day workshop exploiting the effective use of resist media: Markel sticks, wax, printing inks and acrylic media with silk paint.
Colour My Cloth
One or two day flexible workshop covering any combination of the following techniques: immersion dyeing, space dyeing (including shibori) and painting or printing with dye-paint.
Talk
From Canvas to Calico
A talk describing the development of my work and my journey from paint on canvas to making Art Quilts- Includes a short digital presentation and lots of quilts.

City & Guilds Patchwork & Quilting

I have been successfully running this course since 1994.The course is currently taking place at the Leatherhead Institute where it will be held in the autumn term 2010. From 2011 the course will move to the new Committed to Cloth studio at Potter's Farm, Station Road, Bethcworth, Surrey.
771662 (CERTIFICATE)
The Certificate in Design, Patchwork and Quilting (2 Years) provides students with the opportunity to explore the subject in some depth.
In Unit 1-Design for Craft students will prepare a portfolio of artwork in order to show an understanding of colour, texture, line, shape and form developed from the study of a variety of source materials. Techniques will include drawing, painting, printing, rubbings, collage and mixedmedia.
In Unit 2-Patchwork and Quilting, students will produce a portfolio of stitched samples and cover the dyeing, printing and painting of fabric. Over the course of two years students will complete five assessments. It is expected that students will incorporate the skills learned in both units in the design and production of these items.
Dates: Sep 18, Oct 16, Nov 6, Nov 27, Dec 11: 9.30 -4.30 at Leatherhead Institute.

Those who wish to progress further can continue by pursuing the Diploma.
The Diploma in Design, Patchwork & Quilting (2 years) enables students to extend and develop the skills acquired from the Certificate.
Unit 1-Research for Design students will produce a substantial piece of visual research on a topic of their choice. Et will build on methods and techniques coveren in the Certificate and will provide the inspiration for one of three stitched assessments mad for:
Unit 2-Patchwork & Quilting; Students will be encouraged to extend their perceptions of the craft by exploring new materials, tools and techniques. As well as designing and making three stitched assessments there is a requirement to produce an illustrated study in two parts, the first part of which is to research a historic aspect to the craft and the second to look at the work of four contemporary makers.
