I am at heart a painter, but one who chooses to express herself in fabric through dye, paint and stitch. Drawing is a research tool through which I explore imagery, pattern and surface, sometimes my subject matter is identifiable as landscape, trees, birds and figures, sometimes simply the activity of ‘taking a line for a walk’. Interpreting these drawings into quilts involves two opposing processes, one in planning the construction, detailed and methodical, the other in creating the fabric, exciting and spontaneous. | |
